Premier Soccer League Football Symposium

The Premier Soccer League was established in 1992 and has a membership of eighteen top football clubs. The clubs are full members of the Zimbabwe Football Association.

Event Summary

The League organises competitions and development programmes during its football season which runs from March to November of each and every year. Its commercial partners are Delta Beverages under their Castle Lager and Chibuku brands.

The PSL clubs have over years produced talented footballers among them, Tino Kadewere, Marvelous Nakamba, Khama Billiat, Alois Bunjira and Norman Mapeza.

The League will hold an International football symposium at Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe from 10 to 12 October 2019.

The event objectives are:

  • To grow and market the PSL football brand
  • To create a networking forum for football stakeholders
  • To share and exchange ideas for the benefit of football and its stakeholders
  • To promote sports tourism

 

Topics Presenters

The following International & Regional presenters have confirmed their attendance:

1. Jerome Perlemuter

Topic – Sport corporate governance and development.

Jerome Perlemuter is the General Secretary of the World Leagues Forum (WLF). The World Leagues Forum represents the professional football leagues on a world level with political and sport bodies and foster cooperation between them. The WLF notably focuses on improving the regulatory framework of professional football and its development around the world. Before joining the WLF, Jerome served as the General Counsel of the French Professional Football League for twelve years where he was also in charge of public and international affairs. He was also the Integrity Officer of the League.Jerome also served as a Judge for the French Commercial Courts for three years with a particular focus on competition law disputes. Jerome is also currently a judge of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and a member of the Ethics Committee of the French Football Federation.

 

2. Enrique Suay

Topic – Club licensing benefits and the future of football

Enrique Suay is the LaLiga Global Network Delegate in South Africa since 2017, focusing on working in the development of opportunities to improve the awareness of LaLiga, its clubs and its players in the country. LaLiga has implemented the program Global Network across the world to amplify its knowledge about the LaLiga fans and to be able to connect more deeply with them. Previously, he has worked in strategic and marketing positions in different sectors including mass consumption products, digital e-commerce platforms and advertising agencies across Europe. With a completed MIT certificate in Digital Market Analytics, his prior education includes a Business degree by the University of Valencia and a Master in Marketing and Sales Management by ESIC Business School.

 

3. Marc Juillerat

Topic – The globalisation of sport sponsorship: How can sport organisations and its partners realise the full commercial potential

Marc Juillerat is the Chief Legal Officer of the Swiss Football League, which organizes the two professional championships in Switzerland. As such, he is responsible for all legal matters concerning the national professional football. At the same time, he acts as the national Licensing Manager for the annual organization and implementation of the club licensing procedure. Licensing in particular makes up a significant part of his activities. Marc Juillerat started his career as a football official fifteen years ago as a disciplinary judge for the SFL. He is now a member of the Association Council of the Swiss Football Association, a member of the SFL Conciliation Committee and a member of the UEFA Players’ Status, Transfer and Agents Committee. Before joining the SFL, Marc Juillerat worked at the Swiss Federal Office of Police and in the Swiss Federal Criminal Police.

 

4. Michael Murphy

Topic – Sports dispute resolution procedures

Michael Murphy is general legal counsel for the Premier Soccer League of South Africa.  He is a lawyer and director with over 30 years’ experience having specialized in all aspects of employment law, with a particular interest in constitutional matters, sport and entertainment. Michael was appointed to FIFA’s dispute resolution chamber as a consequence of litigation he led in the late 1990’s which resulted in the setting aside of the football rules that continued to apply in South Africa after the Bosman decision – principally on constitutional grounds. He served on that tribunal for a term, and is now widely recognized as an expert in the field of sports law. Michael has appeared before various sporting tribunals, and the Labour and High Courts in South Africa and has contributed many articles in publications such as the Worlds Sports Law Report.  He presents training workshops and seminars on legislative developments, particularly in the field of sports law, employment, and administrative justice.

 

5. Lee Davidson

Topic : Managing safety and security and sporting events

Lee Davidson has been a Safety & Security Manager at FIFA since January 2017, leading the safety and security planning and delivery for a number of FIFA tournaments, including most recently the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019TM. Prior to joining FIFA Lee worked in sports ground safety and security in both operational stadium management and strategic policy roles: at Lord’s Cricket Ground, and as Head of Football at the UK Home Office. A qualified stadium safety and security manager and licensed security officer, she has experience of managing high profile international and domestic sports events, and international government and policing co-operation. Outside of football and cricket Lee worked in a range of event roles at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, the NATO Summit 2014, and the Rugby World Cup 2015. Her previous experience includes policy management in policing, public order, anti-social behaviour, and acquisitive crime.

 

6. Cameron Calder

Topic – Media: Driving fan engagement through digital technology

Marketing Director @ Hype Sports
Before taking on the position to run Hype Sports agency, Cameron has built and managed global digital agencies that have successfully taken brands into the digital realm through advanced technologies and ad platforms. Cameron previously worked with Cristiano Ronaldo to build and grow his online store globally and has used these learnings to help teams speak to their fans on the channels their most receptive to.
